This year is going by so fast.  I can't believe Thanksgiving is next week and Christmas is just around the corner.  Conference confirmation slips will be sent home on Monday.  Please sign and return as soon as possible.  I look forward to meeting you and discussing your child's kindergarten experience.  I will send a reminder note with all the conference scheduled next Tuesday.  Please be sure and check your child's backpack daily.

Because of the short week next week we will be reviewing the letters we have learned so far.  they may bring a sharing that begins with any letter next week.  Students who have sharing on Thursday or Friday can bring their sharing on Wednesday.  Please write 3 clues on the bag, so we can guess the sharing:))

Poetry Folders / Sharing Schedule

Today your child is bringing home their poetry folder.  Please listen to your child recite the poems, "Hello New Friend and Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear."  Inside their poetry folder is also the number 1 poem and the poem for the word "I."  Please bring Poetry Folders back to school every MONDAY.  We will be adding a new poem each week.

Please help your child find a sharing that begins with the letter M.  Please have them put it in a paper sack and write three clues on the outside of the bag.  They have a great time guessing their friends sharing.  This is a great way to encourage oral language.

Thanks also for the name writing practice at home.  They are getting better already:)

1st Day of Kindergarten

What a Busy 1st day of Full-Day Kindergarten!

The kids were very busy today learning classroom rules, routines, and making friends.  We learned the Nursery Rhyme "Jack Be Nimble" and made a craft to go with it!  They had lunch in the cafeteria and also brought home a library book for the first time!
I bet they will sleep good tonight:)

Here are a few important reminders:

  • Check backpacks EVERY day for important information
  • All LIBRARY books are due on Monday each week
  • Double knot shoes
  • It is very helpful to make sure your child wears clothes they can zip, snap all by themselves
  • If your child would like to get a milk with their cold lunch, just make sure you put money in their account.
  • Please sign up for Remind a texting service that I use to communicate with families.

Welcome To Full Day Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten

We are very excited to implement a Full-Day Kindergarten program this year.  In kindergarten, children develop skills that they need to be successful as they enter first grade and continue through school. Having a full day of school will allow children to develop early reading and math skills, social skills, and have lots of time for fun and play.  Our program also includes; music, library, science, P.E. and social studies.

Kindergarten Staggered Start Schedule

This means that for the first three days of school (Sept. 9-11), your child will only attend one of these days. Only a portion of the students will come to school each day, until all students have attended. Then, all students will come together as a class, on Monday, September 14.

Parent letters and post cards will be mailed before school that will provide details regarding the staggered start schedule and which day your child will be attending school.

We believe this ‘staggered start’ method will be helpful to both your child as well as our kindergarten team.  Many of our kindergarten students have never experienced school before. This is a new transition for them, especially attending for a full day. By providing teachers with smaller groups of students, this will eliminate many of the worries our youngsters may bring. In addition, this schedule will provide an opportunity for our kindergarten team to get to know all the children through small group activities as they begin to learn about school. Further, teachers will be able to observe, assess and get to know children and parents before developing class lists.

Parent letters and post cards will be mailed before school that will provide details regarding the staggered start schedule and which day your child will be attending school.

Class Lists will be posted on Friday,  September 11th at 4:00.

All students will attend Monday, September 14th.

I am looking forward to a great year in Kindergarten.  I can't wait to meet the students and parents and work together to make a WONDERFUL beginning to a lifetime of learning.  See you very soon.

Sincerely-
Mrs. Thompson

Read-A-Thon

The Ridgeview Read-a-Thon kicks off Today!!! This year's theme is "Reading is a Blast."  Each classroom has been assigned a galaxy rocket.  The more minutes a class reads collectively, the farther their rocket will travel down the hallway.  If every student read or is read to at least 10 minutes a day we will reach our goal    The goal for the morning class is 5,000 minutes and the PM class goal is to read 3,750 minutes.   Please remind your child to turn in their reading logs daily.  Thank you for reading with your child.
