Sharing Begins Next Week

Please help your child find a sharing that begins with any letter of the alphabet.  Please have them put it in a paper sack and write three clues on the outside of the bag.  They have a great time guessing their friends sharing.  This is a great way to encourage oral language.

If you guessed a ROCK you are right:)

We had a wonderful first full day of kindergarten.  I was so excited to meet your children and be their Kindergarten teacher this year.  There was LOTS of learning going on today.  We reviewed rules, routines and enjoyed visiting the library.

Here are a few important reminders and things to consider...

Your child is bringing home their “HOMEWORK FOLDER” home today!!  There is A LOT of important information inside.

Please check backpacks daily for important information.

Please return the student information page ASAP.  And please sign up for Remind-a free, private texting service that I use to communicate with families.

-please donate a snack for our classroom each month.  We would love to start having a snack in the afternoons.  If each family donates one box of crackers, bag of raisins, etc. each month then we should have plenty to share every day.

-if your child would like to get a milk with cold lunch, just make sure you put money into their account.

Today we learned how to line up and walk down the hall in a line!

We also started a special book about nursery rhymes.  Today we learned Jack Be Nimble.  Each day this week we will do an art project centered around the Nursery Rhyme unit.

Remember doors open at 8:25 the bell rings at 8:35, hang up coats/backpack, put cold lunches in the bin and grab a book to read/ enjoy and sit on the rug.

Welcome to Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten

We are very excited about our Full Day Kindergarten program.  In kindergarten, children develop skills that they need to be successful as they enter first grade and continue through school. Having a full day of school will allow children to develop early reading and math skills, social skills, and have lots of time for fun and play.  Our program also includes; music, library, science, P.E. and social studies.

Kindergarten Staggered Start Schedule

This means that for the first three days of school (Sept. 7,8, & 9), your child will only attend one of these days. Only a portion of the students will come to school each day, until all students have attended. Then, all students will come together as a class, on Monday, September 12th.

Parent letters and post cards will be mailed before school that will provide details regarding the staggered start schedule and which day your child will be attending school.

We believe this ‘staggered start’ method will be helpful to both your child as well as our kindergarten team.  Many of our kindergarten students have never experienced school before. This is a new transition for them, especially attending for a full day. By providing teachers with smaller groups of students, this will eliminate many of the worries our youngsters may bring. In addition, this schedule will provide an opportunity for our kindergarten team to get to know all the children through small group activities as they begin to learn about school. Further, teachers will be able to observe, assess and get to know children and parents before developing class lists.

Parent letters and post cards will be mailed before school that will provide details regarding the staggered start schedule and which day your child will be attending school.

Class Lists will be posted on Friday,  September 9th at 4:00.

All students will attend Monday, September 12th.

I am looking forward to a great year in Kindergarten.  I can't wait to meet the students and parents and work together to make a WONDERFUL beginning to a lifetime of learning.  See you very soon.

Sincerely-
Mrs. Thompson
