Valentine Day Info

Valentine's Party

Our Valentine’s Party is Wednesday, February 14th, from 1:30-2:00.  Parents are invited to come to our classroom party and help celebrate.  We will be having snack and opening our valentine cards.  This is a great time to celebrate friendship.  We have some cute valentine pockets that I displayed in the hallway.  Your child may bring in their valentines anytime.  Please bring them in before Monday, February 12th so we will have plenty of time to get them passed out.  I sent home a list of students names in their homework folder on Monday.

Reading
We have introduced all the letters of the alphabet, but focus on one letter a week to become experts!

As  Bb  Cc  Ff  Mm  Nn Pp Ss Tt  Bb Ii and next week we focus on Gg

We will also begin to work on  diagraphs:

th, sh  ch ph, wh, qu

This week we will focus on word families.  Today we focused on brainstorming all the words that end with the letters at.  The students are showing so much growth!!

In addition to learning letter names and sounds we have focused on word reading.  Our reading program has introduced several words and I have included several more to help with our writing program.

Writing
We are becoming wonderful writers.  We finished our unit on Informative and we are beginning our next unit on Opinion.  We continue to practice sounding out words to spell words, start each sentence with a capital letter, leave spaces between words, and using a punctuation mark at the end of the sentence.

WOW!  It is amazing to watch the students begin to write.

Math
This unit of math has focused on addition to 10.
Partners of 5, and Partners of 10
We also count to 100 daily.  Please practice at home if your child is still unable to count to 100.
Ongoing is the review of 2D and 3D shapes.

The Ridgeview Read-A-Thon is just around the corner!

Ridgeview's Read-A-Thon runs through the month of February.  During this time, students will use reading logs to keep track of the minutes they read or are being read to by a parent.  Weekly drawings will be held, prizes will be awarded for students efforts.  This event sponsored by the PTO.  I will be sending more information soon!
