Kindergarten Information
Here
is an overview of some important information:
School
Hours- 8:35-2:50
Kindergartners have the same hours as the rest of the school.
School begins each day at 8:35 (Doors open at 8:25) and dismissal is at 2:50.

Backpacks-
Please send a backpack with your child everyday. Make sure their backpack is large enough to fit a library
book. Please check your child’s
backpack each day. I will be
sending home a Daily Homework Folder each day with homework and any important
letters, information, etc.
Clothing-
Please send your child in comfortable clothing. Keep in mind your child will be moving around and sitting on
the floor as well as in a chair.
We also will be doing various art projects that might involve paint,
chalk, glue, glitter, etc.
Snack-
We offer a daily snack each day, but are asking each family to donate a snack
once a month for us to share.
Please no cookies, chips, or candy as we are trying to encourage healthy
snacks. Crackers, apples, bananas,
baby carrots, raisins, etc. are all great ideas. Please make sure they are store bought. I will store the snacks in our
classroom and distribute as needed.
If we have any allergy issues, I will send a separate letter home with
more details.
Sharing-
I will send home a sharing schedule.
Your child may bring in a sharing on their sharing day. Please write 3 clues on the outside of
a bag and the class will guess what it is. I will send home more information regarding sharing the
first week of school.
Library-
Our class will visit the library once each week. Your child will be allowed to check out one book each week
as long as they bring their book back.
Birthdays-
We celebrate students’ birthdays during our calendar time. We sing the birthday song, and students
get to choose one prize from the treasure box. We do not celebrate birthdays with food to encourage
healthy habits, minimize disruption to instruction, and maintain equity. Thank you for respecting this school
policy. If your family does not want your
child’s birthday noted in class, please let me know. If you have birthday
invitations, I would prefer you not bring them to school. If that is impossible, please give them
to me so I can pass them out discreetly so as not to make anyone feel left out.
School
Supplies- Your child’s school supplies will be collected at the beginning
of the year and put out as needed.
We use community supplies, so everything is mixed together and shared
among the whole class.
Poetry
Folders- A poetry folder will be sent home at the end of each week. Please read this with your child and
send it back to school on Monday.
I only send poetry folders home the 1st half of the year.
Homework-
Homework is optional in kindergarten, however it is very beneficial to help
reinforce skills that are taught in school. Homework will be sent home daily in folders. I highly encourage your child to
participate in this activity.
Reading aloud to your child will be emphasized as well with a monthly
read aloud chart coming home starting in November. Please sign or initial the folder each night to show you
have seen homework and all other information.
Volunteers-
We need and appreciate help from parent volunteers in kindergarten. If you can help out in any way please
let me know. We need volunteers to
work with students, prepare materials, and help in all sorts of ways.
Please
feel free to call me with any questions or concerns at 541- 744-6308. You may also write me a note on the
daily homework folder. I am
looking forward to an exciting year of kindergarten!
**It
is very important that I know how your child will be getting home each day,
whether it be the bus or being picked up.
If your child is a busser, they will be escorted to and from the
bus. If your child is picked up, I
will make sure to connect your child to whomever if picking them up each day. If there is a change in plans, please
call or send a note so I am able to make sure your child is safely picked up.
Sincerely,
Treva
Thompson
