Welcome to Kindergarten 2020-2021

Welcome to Kindergarten
2020-2021

Kindergarten Staggered Start Schedule

Here is the staggered start schedule for the first week of school-

Half of the students will come for a full day on Wednesday, the other half on Thursday.  Parents should have received a postcard notifying you of what day your child will come.  Students will be in either Room 2 or Room 3 for the day, and will get to know all the teachers.  This day will be a fun day to learn some of the school rules, do some activities and see important places in our school. We will have recess and lunch as normal.

Parent informational meetings will be in Room 1 with one of the Ridgeview teachers.  This is a chance to fill out some paperwork and ask any questions you have.

NO students will come Friday, Sept. 11th.  Teachers will be making class lists this day.

Class Lists will be posted on Friday afternoon at 4:00.

Monday  September 14th will be the first day of school with classrooms all set!! Looking forward to a wonderful year.

We believe this ‘staggered start’ method will be helpful to both your child as well as our kindergarten team.  Many of our kindergarten students have never experienced school before. This is a new transition for them, especially attending for a full day. By providing teachers with smaller groups of students, this will eliminate many of the worries our youngsters may bring. In addition, this schedule will provide an opportunity for our kindergarten team to get to know all the children through small group activities as they begin to learn about school. Further, teachers will be able to observe, assess and get to know children and parents before developing class lists.

I am looking forward to a great year in Kindergarten.  I can't wait to meet the students and parents and work together to make a WONDERFUL beginning to a lifetime of learning.  See you very soon.

Sincerely-
Mrs. Thompson

Holiday Update

Dear Families,

We are getting closer to winter break and I wanted to check in and provide some updates and information.

I will be sending home a gift from me to the kinders this Wednesday, as well as a family gift from your child to YOU.  They may give it to you before the holidays or wait until break.  It is a special gift they worked hard on, we hope you like it.
This week the students have been busy making a Holiday Book.  We are learning about 3 different holidays celebrated this time of year and do a craft activity for each.

Keep reading and filling out December Reading Logs.  The goal for this month is 22 books.  Just keep them over break and count any titles read in January for this log.  I will collect on January 8 when all students arrive back to school.
The last day of school in 2018 will be Friday, December 21.  This will be a very fun day for the kinders.  We will have a school wide holiday sing-a-long in the morning and then watch the movie "The Polar Express" in the afternoon.  Students may wear their pajamas to school all day (please wear shoes for recess).  Please let me know if you do not want your child watching this movie.

We are really working hard in school and learning so much.  It is amazing how much progress has been made since the beginning of the year.  Keep reading and working on sounds and words with your child.

I wish you all a wonderful and safe holiday season and will look forward to seeing everyone back in 2019!

Thank you!

Update

Homework Folders
Thank you for your support with our Homework Folders!!  We have had 100 percent of students returning homework folders daily.  That is AMAZING!  I really appreciate all that you do to help make your students Kindergarten year off to a great start!  Name writing is slowly improving.  It takes lots of time and lots of practice!  Please remember to remind your child to always start their letters at the top.  Some students are starting their letters at the bottom and I don't want that to become a habit.  I have taught them a cute song about starting your letters at the top.  Ask them to sing it to you.  In addition, please have your child say each letter of their name as they write it.  Some student can write their name, but they are unable to say the letters in their name.  We will continue name writing for several weeks.

I always start my letters at the top---the top
I always start my letters at the top---the top
When we practice our letters, we will get better, better, better
If we always start our letters at the top--THE TOP!

SNACKS
We are need of snacks!  Goldfish, pretzels, graham crackers are easy to pass out and the kids love them.  If every parent donates a snack once a month, we should have plenty!!

Upcoming
This Thursday, September 27th is Picture Day-Bring your forms and money to school or order online.

Homework Folders

We are off to a GREAT Start!!

We have spent last week getting to know each other and learn about making new friends. I love this group of Kiddos!  We continued to work on learning the new routines, rules, and procedures.  We are also working hard to listen and follow directions.

Our classroom rules are:
1.       Use Kind Words
2.       Raise our hand before you talk
3.       Try your very best.

Ask your child to tell you the classroom rules!!

Our School wide rules at Ridgeview are:
  • Be Safe
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Responsible.

Today your child is bring home their homework folder for the first time.

Please make sure you look very carefully in the homework folder daily. I will be sending home important information in it.  It is packed full of information today!  Spend a few minutes looking through it today.  Please send it back to school DAILY.
